So. Today in class we assigned Macbeth roles to students to read. When I asked the class who wants to be Lady Macbeth, a young man raised his hand. I kind of stared at him like “Lady Macbeth,” and he nodded like “I know what I’m about ma’am.” So then the student who ended up as Macbeth raised his hand and said “HE’S THE ONE, HE’S MY WIFE!” So I said “yeah sure why not,” and the entire class period they were blowing kisses to each other and winking at each other, and every now and then Macbeth would say “I’m the luckiest man on Earth” and Lady Macbeth would put a hand to his chest, and be like “BABE!”.
I just stared at them, knowing that they CLEARLY have never read ‘Macbeth’ before, so… all this lovey dovey… I don’t know if I have the heart to tell them the truth.

Macbeth is absolutely willing to fucking throw down for Lady Macbeth. Has already threatened a wall, a desk, a few students, a textbook that was neither his nor Lady Macbeth’s, and me
Lady Macbeth is enjoying the attention and has begun to use this new connection to his advantage. I’m starting to suspect he’s read ahead in the play.
Macbeth is going to end up living in detention at this rate.
Macbeth has no idea that he is the tragedy of the story. Claims to be the hero of the play, fails to see the irony in this
Macbeth slowly scooted his desk across the classroom to hold hands with Lady Macbeth. He was not subtle.
Macbeth has proposed on several occasions. Lady Macbeth just laughs and says they’re already married.
Macbeth’s girlfriend is in the class with them and is “totally not jealous or anything just thinks this whole fucking play is a waste of time”
Lady Macbeth should probably be a theatre major at some point, he fucking rocked Act V scene I
Other teachers and staff are emailing me about the “lovely lords”. Lady Macbeth now refuses to answer to anything other than Lady Macbeth and is always very upset when people don’t call him by his proper title.
Into the Spider Verse is finally doing what mainstream CGI animation should have been doing for years: creating visuals only possible BECAUSE of the chosen medium.
CGI is a modern crutch. It’s cheaper than 2D by a landslide, and easier to churn out with the support of a studio.
But the actualization of a medium clicks when the medium is being used in ways that only it can. Focusing on rendering every hair, on recreating beautiful photo-realistic landscapes, that’s fine. It’s impressive. But the approach reaches a point where we’re left wondering:
“Why didn’t you just make a live action movie?”
Spider Verse brings the aesthetic, the aim, and the FUN of comics to the screen in a gorgeous way. I’m fucking thrilled that Miles is getting such a beautiful, unique, and frankly revolutionary introduction to the big screen.
Seriously.
I want a Harry Potter remake where it’s animated and the scenery is gloriously, ridiculously magical and the characters are exquisitely expressive and wonderfully quirky and they wear flowing robes all the time because they’re witches and wizards, dammit and the robes just. move. like. fluids. like smoke and like drops of ink in water and like the giant flags outside of every Perkins flapping in the wind, just constantly, intricately rendered like Merida’s hair in Brave or the ocean in Moana,
and also the entire visual aesthetic of the movie just unapologetically morphs all over the place in response to the mood of the story, jumping from Studio Ghibli to House of a Thousand Corpses to Care Bears to The Nightmare Before Christmas,
and also magic looks fucking beautiful and glorious and dramatic and dynamic, none of this “oh my wand lit up like there’s a tiny LED Christmas light on the end of it” but “this curse took seventy hours to render,”
and if any wizard for any reason wears Muggle clothing, nine times out of ten they look fucking ridiculous in it,
and just stop trying to make it realistic and for heaven’s sake stop doing that stupid thing where you take this magical fantasy world and make it as boring and mundane as possible we have enough of that in real life it’s not what we watch movies for I’m looking at you, Muggle-style school uniforms in a Wizarding school, fuck that,
just a really fucking amazing animation of witches and wizards and the world they live in, to go with a really amazing story.

So about this project. For awhile now I’ve noticed almost every single time I see a darker skinned black woman “going viral”, she’s half naked, oiled up, and/or sexualized in some way shape or form. It’s very rarely ever “Look at this amazing dark skinned woman who accomplished this thing.” Or “Look at her smile, she’s gorgeous”. Please don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. There is nothing wrong with darker women and black women in general being free and expressive about their sexuality and provocative features. BUT that is NOT ALL they are. They are so much more than sexual beings, but for some reason, that seems to be almost the only thing that grabs viral appreciation. So here’s my attempt to have darker skinned black women go viral for just being cute, creative, stylish, bubbly, beautiful, and black. Aside from the videographer EVERYONE involved in this project IS A BLACK WOMAN. I hope you guys like it. I ask that if you enjoyed this and agree with my objective, share it with a few people please.
